San Juan Caves
Caves of Canelobre-Xixona-Alcoi-castles
Very close to El Campello we find the caves of Canelobre
with their beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Jijona is the
world turrón capital and this delicious nougat can be bought
in any of the many factories. One of them houses the Turrón
Museum another must. On the way to Alcoy we pass through two beautiful
spots, the Puerto de la Carrasqueta and the Barranco de la Batalla.
Alcoy´s Museu de la Festa is well worth a visit and is devoted
to the Moors and Christians festivals that are so important in this
town. The Old town, with the Plaza de España has excellent
examples of industrial architecture.
All along the River Vinalopó river valley,
there are towns overlooked by beautiful medieval castles: Bañeres,
Biar, Villena, Sax, Peter and Novelda.
