Archidona White Villages Malaga

Archidona lies at the foot of the Pico del Conjuro mountain between olive groves and meadows, on the road that links Antequera with the province of Granada. With its Ochavada Plaza, Archidona has one of the most imposing historic centres in Andaluca, this square was built in the Mudejar style and inspired by French urbanism. It has also various places and elements of natural and urban interest.Such as Grande and Chica Lagoons and La Hoz de Arroyo Martin which are examples of the former. Other interesting monuments include Virgen de Gracia Sanctuary, built on the ruins of the old castle, the Nazarene Chapel and the old granary building.

Festivities
The Holy Week in Archidona is beautiful, the town maintains anguished silence during the processional parade of the Cofrada de la Humildad brotherhood, only broken by three blasts from the zumba (trumpet), a very ancient six metre long instrument with a bass tone which only this town posseses, which represent the three stumbles of Christ. As much fervour is experienced in the Virgen de Gracia pilgrimage, to which tradition attributes hundreds of miracles and during which each year some 30 000 persons congregate around its hermitage.Some of the pilgrims climb barefoot or on their knees for the 1.5 kms of long slope that separates the municipality from the temple.
