THE ALGARVE
Situated on the southern part of Portugal, this region was the last to be conquered from the Moors by the Portuguese king in 1292. Reminescences of the Moorish style can be seen in its unique architecture - terraces, chimneys and whitewashed houses.
Nowadays ,the obstacle which represented the long distance that made this region to be the last Portuguese conquest, has now been solved by the road "IP1" that links Lisbon-Albufeira-Castro or by the Faro international airport.
The south of Portugal benefits of great climate which is ideal for playing golf and any other open air sports.
The hills of Espinhação de Cão, Monchique and Caldeirão , in the
north of the Algarve, protects the coast from the strong winds.
The Algarve is a quite rich and fertile land standing out of its colourful
"paysage" the fruit trees such as the figs and almond trees and its orange
groves.
While in the southern part of the Algarve the "paysage"
consists of rugged cliffs , caves and beautiful long sandy beaches,
ideal to relax or practise all kind of water sports. You will also find
wonderful marinas such as the ones of Vilamoura and Lagos and many other
facilities like golf courses among others, luxury resorts and a
vibrant nightlife.
